James Little, M.Ed., M.A., C. Psych., President
Mr. Little holds an M.Ed. in education for the University of Western Ontario and an M.A. in counselling psychology from the Alfred Adler Institute of Chicago (now Adler University). He works currently in private practice as a registered psychologist and his scope of practice is school psychology. He has been involved with the Adler School in Toronto for about 25 years, teaching a variety of courses, mainly in assessment. He is registered as a psychologist in Ontario and Saskatchewan and is a member of the Ontario Association of Psychological Associates and the Canadian Psychological Association. Outside of psychology, Jim has a keen interest in scuba diving, cooking, baking and barbeque.
Linda J. Page, Ph.D., Founder
Dr. Page earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology (ASPP) in Chicago, Illinois after earning her Ph.D. at Princeton University. Most of her courses were delivered in Toronto at what was then called the Alfred Adler Institute of Ontario. After a three-year internship at the Rudolf Dreikurs Centre for Counselling and Education under the supervision of Larry Nisan, M.Ed., and Evelyn Wolff, M.D., she opened her own practice as a psychotherapist in 1981. She co-founded the Psychotherapy Institute of Toronto with Susan Rosenthal, M.D., in 1987 to train M.A. students and physicians in Adlerian psychotherapy. Because of her academic and graduate teaching background, she was invited to direct Chicago's M.A. program in Toronto, which she did from 1989 to 2006. During part of that time, she commuted to Chicago to teach as a member of ASPP's doctoral core faculty and to direct the Adler Centre for Gender and Cultural Studies. She founded Adler's Professional Coaching Certificate Program in 1998, an initiative that now has representatives in the United States, Europe and Central Asia.
Begum Verjee, Ed.D., VP Community Engagement
As an educational leader, program developer and social change agent, I have extensive experience working in the fields of diversity and social justice, and have delved programs and educational initiatives using social determinants of health lens. I am committed to social responsibility and have advocated strongly educational transformation in developing health equity programs and services. I am currently the VP community Engagement at the ADLER Graduate Professional School, and am working to establish ALFREDS as a non-profit charitable organization. I have completed coach training at ADLER, and have a part-time coaching and consulting practice. I am also interested in coach education with a focus on equity and inclusion in advancing under-represented groups.
Gary Challis, Ph.D., C.Psych., Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Director of Research
Dr. Challis holds a Ph.D.in psychology from Carleton University and has practiced as a Registered Psychologist for the past eighteen years in the Toronto area. He attained his B.Sc. from the University of Toronto and M.Sc. from the University of Calgary. He has worked in various professional capacities including within a Provincial Psychiatric Hospital as a psychologist and Director of Quality Management and Program Evaluation. He has provided rehabilitation psychology services and supervision for graduate students and professionals seeking registration with the College of Psychologists. Dr. Challis has worked for the past fifteen years within a private practice as a registered clinical psychologist providing therapy, treatment planning and assessments. Dr. Challis is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario and a member of the Canadian Psychological Association.
Julie A. Brown, M.S.W., Dean of Psychotherapy, Co-director of Adler Trauma Psychotherapy Program
Julie Brown is a Psychotherapist with experience spanning over fifteen years providing services and developing training programs for therapists and clients in the mental health field. Her MSW (Clinical Focus) is from Wilfrid Laurier University. She joined the Adler Faculty in 2011 to develop and implement the certificate program in Trauma Psychotherapy. A dynamic group leader, presenter and consultant, Julie has delivered keynote addresses and provided workshops in the areas of Attachment, Trauma Impact, Domestic Violence, and Psychobiological influences of Stress on Health. Julie also maintains a private practice in Guelph specializing in working with individuals, couples and families who are struggling with relational difficulties due to depression, anxiety and trauma.
Dr. M. Elmpak, Ed.D., C. Psych., Director, International Student Program
Dr. Elmpak has been working as a Psychologist for the last 18 years. She initially studied philosophy and psychology at the University of Sorbonne, in Paris, France, and at the University in Berlin, Berlin, Germany. She obtained her doctorate degree in psychology from the University of Toronto, OISE. She has lectured Physiological Psychology at the University of Calgary, led series of training programs in Behavior Therapy and Stress Management, taught Mindfulness Training to various community groups, and specializes in Chronic Pain Management. From 2004 to 2010, she served as the Director of Apex Centre for Integrated Health, providing psychological services, education, consultations and presentations to individuals and the community. In 2010, she joined the Toronto Poly Clinic, a multi-disciplinary clinic specializing in the management of patients with chronic pain. She is specializing in Positive Living, Mindfulness, Hypnosis among other assessment and treatment services. Over the course of her professional career, she consulted to the WSIB, The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), the Ministry of Community and Social Services, The Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture, The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, the Insurance Industry, and Rehabilitation and Legal communities. She is a member of the Ontario Psychological Association, the Positive Psychology Association, and the International Society for Infant Studies. Dr. Oren Gozlan, Psy.D, C. Psych. ABPP, Director of Clinical Training
Dr. Gozlan is a Clinical Psychologist and a Psychoanalyst, registered to practice Psychology in the Province of Ontario. He is also a Diplomate in Psychoanalysis with the American Board of Professional Psychology. He is a Professor of Psychology and Psychoanalysis at the Adler Graduate Professional School in Toronto, where he also serve as Director of Clinical Training. He is a member of the Toronto Society for Contemporary Psychoanalysis as well as a guest member at the Toronto Institute of Psychoanalysis. Martin A. Katzman,BSc, MD, FRCPC, Faculty Member
Dr. Katzman was trained at the University of Toronto, first undertaking his B.Sc. in Psychology and Neuroscience, and subsequently his medical training and residency.
Dr. Katzman’s clinical work deals chiefly with the diagnosis and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, and recently has expanded to work with adults suffering from Attention Deficit Disorders as well as those suffering from chronic pain disorders. His research includes various techniques including positron emission tomography, the respiratory physiological challenge, and Doppler imaging, as well as a number of anxiogenic challenges to examine the pathophysiology of the mood, anxiety, pain and attention systems. His most recent interest is in examining the psychological manifestations associated with executive dysfunction in the mood, anxiety and traumatic disorders.
He is the Clinic Director and Staff Psychiatrist at the START Clinic (Stress, Trauma, Anxiety Rehabilitation and Treatment) for Mood and Anxiety Disorders. He is also a faculty member at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (Laurentian University and Lakehead University) as well as in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He is also appointed in the Department of Psychology at Lakehead University.

Dr. Andrea Myrie-Nurse is a graduate of the Adler School of Professional Psychology (now Adler University) in Chicago and has been a Registered Psychologist since 2002 with the Ontario College of Psychologists. She has extensive experience providing psychological services to adults, adolescents and children. Dr. Myrie-Nurse’s clinical background includes associations with Whitby Mental Health (now the Ontario Shores Center for Mental Health Services), Toronto East General Hospital’s Brief Therapy Unit and the Etobicoke Centre for Children and Families. Susan Rosenthal, Bsc.Med, MD (McMaster ‘74), Co-Director of Adler Trauma Psychotherapy Certificate Program
Dr. Rosenthal is a Physician Emeritus who integrates physical, psychological, and social perspectives into a practical, problem-solving approach to treating trauma-related disorders. She has taught post-graduate psychology courses at Adler since 1998. From 1998 to 2006, she supervised the Adler Trauma Therapy Clinic, which served as a practicum site for MA students. She serves as adjunct faculty for Adler Graduate Professional Schools, and teaches courses leading to the Adler Trauma Psychotherapy Certificate.

Rosemary Young, Ph. D., C.Psych., Thesis
Rosemary E. Young is an educational psychologist and teacher who focusses on learning disabilities. She completed her M.A. in Psychology at the University of Toronto, and her Ph.D. in Psychology at McMaster University. She was a founder and former Director of a Joint Ph.D. program in Education co-offered by 4 Ontario universities. Dr. Young has 27 years of graduate supervision experience, and has co-authored 3 editions of Introduction to Early Childhood Education with Eva Essa.
